Paralympic Champions Sumit Antil and Sharad Kumar Meet PM Modi, Express Gratitude

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the Indian Paralympic contingent, including gold medallist Sumit Antil and silver medallist Sharad Kumar. The para-athletes thanked PM Modi for his constant support and encouragement.

Sharad Kumar, a para high jumper who won silver at the Paris Paralympics, expressed his gratitude. He mentioned his long association with the ‘Para-movement’ and acknowledged PM Modi’s unique acceptance and support for para-athletes. “We are extremely thankful to you for motivating us before the games. No one has supported para-athletes like you,” Sharad said.

Sharad also shared his pride in being part of the Indian team at the 2024 Paralympics and highlighted how India is now seen as a rising sporting nation.

Sumit Antil’s Message

Sumit Antil, who won his second consecutive gold medal in javelin, dedicated his victory to PM Modi. He recalled the Prime Minister’s promise made after the Tokyo Games to bring home more golds. “This one is for you,” said Antil, expressing his gratitude on behalf of the entire team.

Sumit set a new world record in the F64 javelin throw final at the Paris Paralympics with a throw of 70.59 meters, breaking his previous record from the Tokyo Paralympics.

India’s Paralympic Success

The Indian Paralympic team wrapped up its campaign in Paris with a historic total of 29 medals. The haul included seven golds, nine silvers, and 13 bronzes, marking India’s best-ever performance in the Paralympic Games.

PM Modi also praised the athletes on social media, saying their dedication and spirit made the country proud. He described the 2024 Paralympics as a special and historic moment for India.
