Haryana Government Releases List of Corrupt Patwaris

Gurugram: In a major step against corruption in the Revenue Department, the Haryana government has compiled a confidential list of 370 corrupt patwaris (land record officials) across the state.

The list has been shared with various Deputy Commissioners, including details of 27 patwaris from Gurugram district. Allegations against these officials include employing personal assistants for their work and conducting unauthorized financial transactions.

This list, which surfaced on social media, has created a significant buzz and prompted swift reactions.

The directive, issued four days ago, highlights that 26 out of the 27 patwaris from Gurugram have hired private assistants. It is alleged that bribes ranging from ₹4,000-₹5,000 are taken for property registration (intkal) and ₹200-₹500 for preparing records and maps.

The viral list also mentions that patwaris from Daulatabad and nearby areas employ two private assistants each, while a female patwari from Basai reportedly works without an assistant. Meanwhile, citizens visiting Patwar Bhawan (the patwar office) complain of delays and the frequent absence of officials, forcing them to make repeated visits for their work.

People seeking services from patwaris have expressed frustration, stating that despite computerization, procedural delays persist. They are often told that the official is unavailable or face excuses like power outages.

Official Response

Ajay Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Gurugram, commented, “I am aware of the viral list issued by headquarters. An investigation will be conducted on Monday, and appropriate action will follow.”

This development has brought attention to the ongoing issues in the Revenue Department, and citizens are hopeful for swift corrective measures.
