The Chief General Manager of the Mobility Division, R.D. Singhal, stated that GMDA conducted a survey identifying 32 junctions in Sector 58-115 where the installation of smart traffic signals was deemed necessary. This initiative aims to address traffic congestion issues and enhance the commuting experience for the general public. The project will soon be handed over to the agency for implementation.
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) will soon begin the installation of smart traffic signal lights, including pedestrian signal lights, in the GMDA area from Sector 58 to 115. This project received approval for allocation during a tender allocation committee meeting held on Wednesday, chaired by GMDA’s Chief Executive Officer, A. Srinivas.
This initiative is part of the second phase of the smart traffic signal project and will cost ₹7.46 crore. The work is set to commence in November and is expected to be completed by the agency within six months.
Approximately 32 junctions in Sectors 58-115 will be equipped with smart traffic signals to enhance traffic management and improve pedestrian movement. Key locations for the installation of the new smart signals include the dividing road towards Khedki Majra between Sectors 102A/103, Bajghera Underpass, junctions at Sectors 110/110A/112/113, and the T-Point at Sectors 45/52. Other notable sites include Vikas Marg, junctions towards Dwarka Expressway at Sectors 101/102/102A/104, the T-Point at Sectors 93/94/89, Ramapura to Pataudi Road, Dadi Sati Chowk at Sectors 86/85/90/89, Jai Singh Chowk at Sectors 81/82/85/86, and junctions at Sectors 90/91/92/93. These improvements aim to facilitate smoother traffic flow and enhance safety for pedestrians.

The smart traffic signals will be equipped with an Adaptive Traffic Control System (ATCS) to improve traffic flow in the city and facilitate easier movement for citizens. Vehicle detector cameras will be installed at all locations on the traffic lights, enabling the smart signals to measure vehicle flow at the intersections.
These traffic signals will automatically adjust their timing and extend the green light duration to ensure a smooth flow of traffic. They will also provide a green corridor for emergency vehicles to prioritise their movement. Additionally, pedestrian signal lights will be included to ensure the safety and uninterrupted movement of pedestrians at these busy junctions.
Under Phase One of this project, GMDA is already upgrading existing traffic signals at 111 junctions in Sector 1-58, Gurugram. Smart signals are now operational at 65 junctions, including major intersections such as Jharsa, Kalyani Chowk, Khushboo Chowk, Galleria Market, Gwal Pahari, IFFCO Chowk, Sector 17 Ghoda Chowk, Shankar Chowk, and Qutub Plaza, with ongoing work at other locations.
