In accordance with the directions of GMDA’s Chief Executive Officer, a drive was launched to free master roads, footpaths, and green belts from encroachments within the authority’s jurisdiction. This initiative aims to enhance their utility and further develop them to improve the beautification of Gurugram city.
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) enforcement team has intensified its action against encroachments on government land. On Tuesday, the team continued its crackdown on encroachers late into the night along MG Road, Sohna Road, Fazilpur Road, and Ghansoli Road.
The drive was conducted following the directives of the Chief Executive Officer of GMDA to clear master roads, footpaths, and green belts of encroachments within the authority’s jurisdiction. This initiative aims to enhance their utility and further develop them for the beautification of Gurugram city. In the past ten days, GMDA’s ongoing anti-encroachment campaign has successfully cleared major roads and green belts of illegal encroachments.
This campaign, led by GMDA’s DTP R.S. Bhath, commenced on MG Road and lasted for three hours, during which strict action was taken against illegal constructions and encroachments. The Gurugram Municipal Corporation (MCG) actively collaborated in this effort, resulting in the removal of 27 unauthorised vehicles from MG Road. The GMDA team was accompanied by traffic police, who issued approximately 62 challans for illegal parking and towed away eight cars that were causing traffic congestion.
The GMDA enforcement team moved towards Sohna Road in the evening, continuing its action against encroachments in this critical area of the city. During the campaign, individuals present requested DTP, GMDA to inspect other key points on Sohna Road, as well as the entry points of Fazilpur Road and Ghansoli Road.
The GMDA enforcement team removed illegal seating areas created by restaurants in public spaces on Sohna Road and took action against vendors encroaching on the area. They requested all vendors to vacate the space and renew their expired permits; otherwise, roadside stalls would be removed by the DTP enforcement team.
The DTP inspected the stalls set up by vendors and noted that they were using a significant amount of plastic. He instructed all vendors to cease the use of plastic and ensure a plastic-free Gurugram city. Addressing public complaints raised during the campaign, 15 kiosks and five vendors encroaching from Ghansoli Road in Sector 49 to Sohna Road and Fazilpur Road in Sector 48 were also removed. The campaign involved the GMDA enforcement team, along with other JE, MCG officials, and traffic police officers.
DTP R.S. Bhath stated that they are committed to the task and will work tirelessly to ensure that the city is free from encroachments and that strict action is taken against violators. He emphasised that all major areas in Gurugram facing significant encroachments, causing inconvenience to the public, will be included in the demolition drive.
