Dhankot Village Road Collapses into Potholes: Conditions Deteriorate Despite DC’s Orders

Alternative Route Planned to Ease Traffic Congestion Between Gurugram and Jhajjar Amid Waterlogging and Road Damage

Preparations are underway to create an alternative route connecting Gurugram to Jhajjar near Dhankot village. DS Dhesi, the chief advisor for urban development and retired chief secretary of Haryana, has issued orders to BK Saini, the chief town planner of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), regarding this matter. The chief town planner will now collaborate with the engineering cell to explore the possibilities for constructing the alternative route.

As soon as you enter Dhankot village, the traffic jam at the canal bridge is causing significant trouble for thousands of commuters as well as the villagers. Despite the Deputy Commissioner’s visit and the directives given to alleviate the congestion, residents have yet to see any relief. Due to the daily jams, what should be a journey of minutes takes hours for many.

Due to the traffic jams, the roadways buses coming from other districts often get stuck in the congestion. As a result, over 30 buses arriving in Gurugram from neighbouring districts are delayed in reaching the bus stand, causing significant inconvenience for passengers. The main causes of the jams are the damaged roads and waterlogging. Despite numerous complaints, no improvements have been made so far.

In Dhankot village, one road leads towards the canal bridge and connects to Dwarka Expressway via Shyam Chowk. The condition of the road in Dhankot village is quite pathetic, with potholes as deep as one foot. Additionally, the other road that runs alongside the canal also has deep potholes. As a result, traffic in this area remains extremely slow.

Many vehicles travel from Dhankot village towards Chandu, but they often get stuck at the canal bridge junction due to potholes and waterlogging. This congestion is further exacerbated by heavy vehicles, leading to persistent traffic jams that have lasted throughout the day for nearly two months. On Monday and Tuesday mornings, there was a long jam stretching from Chandu village to Dhankot.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway to create an alternative route connecting Gurugram to Jhajjar near Dhankot village. DS Dhesi, the chief advisor for urban development and retired chief secretary of Haryana, has directed the chief town planner of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) regarding this matter. The chief town planner will now collaborate with the engineering cell to explore possibilities for constructing the alternative route.

During the monsoon, water accumulated up to one to one-and-a-half feet on the Gurugram-Jhajjar road near Dhankot village, causing significant inconvenience for drivers. This road sees daily traffic of around 50,000 to 60,000 vehicles. Since the Dwarka Expressway connects to this road, drivers from Jhajjar use it to reach the Dwarka area in Delhi.

In light of the difficulties faced by drivers due to waterlogging over the past month and a half, the chief advisor for urban development has ordered the exploration of alternative routes, and the GMDA has begun preparations. The Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) and GMDA will create a stormwater drain on this road to facilitate rainwater drainage. The road is owned by the PWD (Public Works Department, Buildings and Roads), which has issued a no-objection certificate for constructing the stormwater drain
